Slap a Cheek- Take Two

You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.”
‭‭- Jesus (Matthew‬ ‭5:38-39‬ ‭NASB)‬‬

This has to be one of the most difficult teachings of our Lord. Impossible to carry out by our own human strength. Yet, it depicts the kind of love He wants us to exhude.

This love is often mistaken for foolishness and weakness. But isn’t it much easier to fight back? I mean, a tooth for a tooth comes to us more easily, but it takes a great deal of strength to rein in our base impulses.

We surely cannot love like this, this is why we have to let Christ love through us, showing mankind a love so unconditional, consistent and accepting. A love which says “I’d rather get hurt than hurt you”. A love that gives even when it knows it’ll never be loved in return. A love to die for.

Have a splendid week.

Love,
Laura.
